Combating Trafficking in Persons in Central Asia: Prevention, Protection and Capacity Building (2006-2007)

The project aims to contribute to combating trafficking in persons in Central Asia, through prevention, protection and capacity building activities.  This project will comprise four country programs - in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan - where prevention, protection and capacity building activities will be implemented. Project activities in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan will focus on training government officials and support to NGOs, the Turkmen project component will attempt a broader range of activities.

Overall Objective

• To enhance the capacity of NGOs to provide assistance to trafficking victims.
• To enhance the capacity of national governments to address trafficking in persons.
• To provide direct assistance to victims of trafficking
• To contribute to a better understanding of the phenomenon of trafficking in persons in Turkmenistan
